Important information for all visitors

1. Indian Nationals do not require a permit to visit Spiti.

2. The Government of India has relaxed inner line provisions for foreign tourists. Inner line permits are not necessary to travel from Kullu Manali to Spiti and these days you are permitted to go as far down Tabo Horling valley from where the Indian Tibet border is only a few kilometers away. However, for entry to Spiti region via Shimla Kinnaur, a permit is required.

3. Foreign nationals traveling via Shimla Kinnaur are hence advised to apply to Sub Divisional Magistrate, Rampur Busher District Shimla or Deputy Commissioner, Reikong Peo, District Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh.
The Manali route normally opens at the end of June / beginning of July and is open until November, while the route from Kinnaur is open all year round, but landslides and floods frequently obstruct the route.

Our Sapan Foundation's office is in Kaza

Kaza (Karzey) Village. Altitude is 11880 ft or 3600m

The low rise mountain town of Karzey is the administrative centre and transport hub of Spiti sub district and is surrounded by inspirational scenery. Karzey old town is situated next to the new bus stand where there are little shops, hotels and whitewashed traditional houses.

The new town across the stream is a collection of tin roofed government buildings including the sub divisional magistrate’s office. The Kaza Sakya Tengyud Monastery is situated at the main road at the top end of the new town our office is in complex of the Monastery.
